Lego my rojos

Generous portions of chilaquiles rojos with the fixings, frijoles de olla (my frijoles are holier than anyone's; I use Lourdes water), and fried plantain. Ask me how I know…

'Cause I'm making it! Or I can whip up huevos rancheros on the spot, or anything else that you want.

I'll be making fresh wheat flour tortillas later tomorrow to stuff burritos, as well. It'll all be great. Trust me, I know what I'm doing.

And looking around here, we've got somebody's mom's fresh home-baked apple crisp available now. With or without ice cream on top. You'd be crazy to not eat my mom's apple crisp.

Workin overtime

Defeat hunger!

For everyone who wasn't able to make it to yesterday's lunch (which I should be gloating about, it was so good! and so much left over...) Siobhan and I have an assembly line working on handmade perogies, full of spiced potatoes, onions and garlic.

We will boil them, then fry them up in a mixture of scallions and margerine. Oh, but that's just part of the meal!

Also being served is a second edition of my homemade tomato soup, full of several pounds of fresh plum tomatos and celery, then pureed to spicey perfection!

Not to mention the slice of buttered (if you prefer) french bread on the side!

This truly is the lunch of ages!
And all for $5.70, how can we stay open?!

All Saints' Day

Vegan shepherd's pie, recipe stolen from Scott Pilgrim Vol. 2: Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. With a side of kasha (delicious buckwheat kernels cooked in broth).

And for the Mexican Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), a festival commemorating one's ancestors, I've baked a traditional pan de muerto, a sweet yeast bread decorated with the shapes of bones and tears (not vegan).
